Inspiration
24% of households waste food as there is no easy way to check what's in your fridge, causing us to forget and overbuy the food. This wastes money and time, and we wanted to solve this problem with a simple solution that everyone can use.
What it does
Scanquin is a hand-held device that allows users to scan items barcodes to track household inventory. It syncs with an app that will remind you that you haven't purchased an item in some time. This ensures that you won't forget any items, reducing overbuying.
How we built it
-C++, ESP32 for the software of the Scanquin and it's dashboard -Figma for the UI of the Scanquin and it's dashboard -Rhino7 for the design of the hardware for the Scanquin -Blender to render the Scanquin
Challenges we ran into
Finding a way to log household items, while ensuring that the hardware and app can communicate.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-Coming up with a design that can work for both right and left handed users. -Creating an easy-to-see UI.
What we learned
How to code using the ESP32.
What's next for Scanquin
We plan to enhance the app with AI-powered shopping predictions and integrate it with online grocery platforms for direct restocking.
