Inspiration

Our inspiration stems from hidden issues that underlie and fester within homes & buildings infrastructure. Problems like mold, corrosion, water leakage, and structural decay often go unnoticed until they become serious and expensive repairs.

We wanted to build something that could help detect these issues earlier and make advanced scanning technologies more accessible. We wanted to create a system that helps people identify problems before they escalate: improving health and safety, reducing costs, and extending the lifespan of buildings.

We were also inspired by the gap between advanced inspection tools and everyday users. While technologies like thermal and hyperspectral scanning exist, they are not widely accessible or easy to understand. We wanted to simplify this process through a mobile platform.

What it does

Our app is a dual-sided infrastructure scanning platform designed for both Personal Use and Business Professionals.

Users can choose between four scanning functions:

  • Terahertz Scan
  • Hyperspectral Scan
  • Thermal Infrared Scan
  • Comprehensive Scan

Each scan detects different types of structural issues such as hidden moisture, material degradation, heat loss, and surface or internal damage. The Comprehensive Scan combines all methods into one full diagnostic report.

For personal users, the app provides easy-to-understand reports and connects them with qualified contractors when issues are detected. For business professionals, it acts as a platform to manage clients, receive job requests, and build a service profile.

How we built it

We designed the app through Loveable.ai using a structured UI/UX planning approach, focusing on simplicity and accessibility.

We mapped out:

  • Dual onboarding system (Personal Use vs Business Professional)
  • Four core scanning modules with expandable “Learn More” pages
  • Report generation and Data Log system
  • Contractor matching and messaging system

We also designed a navigation system with a three-bar menu that includes Profile, Data Log, Contact Us, Language settings, Subscription management, and role-specific features.

The system was built conceptually as a mobile-first application with AI-assisted reporting and structured data logging.

Challenges we ran into

  • Time Crunch
  • Learning Curve
  • Limited Power Supply for Charging
  • Free trials of cloud workspaces for collaboration expiring when work is still in progress
  • Balancing realism with ambition (Technologies like terahertz and hyperspectral scanning are highly advanced and typically require specialized hardware, so we had to rethink how the app would function in a realistic environment—focusing on integration rather than direct hardware execution)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we created a concept that bridges advanced inspection technology with everyday usability.

We successfully designed a platform that:

  • Supports both homeowners and professionals
  • Encourages early detection of structural problems
  • Connects users directly to real-world solutions
  • Improves communication in the infrastructure maintenance space

We are especially proud that the idea focuses on preventing damage before it becomes critical, rather than reacting after failure occurs.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned how important it is to translate complex technical systems into simple user experiences.

We also gained insight into:

  • Infrastructure health and common building failures
  • The importance of early detection systems
  • Designing dual-sided platforms for different user needs
  • Accessibility considerations for inclusive design

Most importantly, we learned how to structure a product that connects technology with real-world human impact.

What's next for ScanAura

Next, we would like to develop a working prototype and test the user experience with both homeowners and contractors.

We also plan to explore:

  • Integration with real scanning hardware or sensors
  • AI-based damage detection and reporting improvements
  • Contractor marketplace expansion
  • Pilot testing in real residential and commercial environments

Our goal is to validate how effective early detection can be in reducing infrastructure damage and improving response time for repairs.
