Inspiration

  • We were inspired by the Sam's Club scan and go feature. This hasn't been implemented by any other store much yet, so we thought to make this feature available for Wakefern stores.

What it does

  • Allows students to skip the checkout lines, they can just scan the products in their cart and the charge will be deducted from their preferred payment account
  • Allow students to favorite their regular grocery items and be notified when a deal comes on that item through a text message
  • The Scanner keeps track of popular products so that those products are always in stock

How we built it

  • We used Android Studios, Java and Firebase for developing the app

Challenges we ran into

  • It was our first time using Android Studios and Firebase so it took some time to implement the login and registration authorization
  • We had a hard time using APIs with Android Studios

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • We were able to create a login and registration page which checks all constraints and keeps track of authorized users

What's next for Scan&Go

-implement a barcode scanner and use the product API to automatically get the prices for their products which can be deducted from their payment account on checkout -implement a favorites list and use a service like twilio to send out messages to the students that have added that product to their list -implement a database to keep track of the most popular products of the month which can later be reviewed so it can be determined which products should be ordered in what amount
