Inspiration
I was looking up for hackathons, found this one. It seemed intriguing. The problem was real, even this has happened in my own neighbourhood and with my own family. I decided that I can help overcome this problem, and put my track on building it!
What it does
This is a dedicated online resource designed specifically for seniors to empower them against the rising threat of scams. It offers vital information on recognizing common scams, practical prevention strategies. I believe that knowledge is the best defense, so it provides resources that help seniors stay informed and safe in today's digital world.
How we built it
Identifying the Need: The first step was recognizing the increasing prevalence of scams targeting older adults. This understanding shaped the mission of the website: to educate and protect seniors. Content Development: I focused on creating informative content that addresses various aspects of scams, including: -> Common Scams: Describing types such as phishing, tech support scams, and romance scams. -> Prevention Strategies: Offering practical tips on recognizing scams and protecting personal information. User-Centric Design: The website was designed with seniors in mind, ensuring that it is easy to navigate and accessible. For example: A clear layout with large fonts and high-contrast colors for readability.
Challenges we ran into
As someone who may not have extensive web development experience, I faced technical challenges in building the site, particularly in implementing interactive features, but I invested time in learning about web development tools and applying them practically.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am glad that I successfully completed this project as a part of my first ever hackathon! I am happy that I was able to contribute solving this worldwide problem.
What we learned
The process reinforced my belief in lifelong learning. Whether it was through researching new scams or learning about web development tools, staying curious and open to new knowledge is crucial for personal and professional growth.
