Inspiration
ScamShield AI: My Project Story
Inspiration
I was inspired to build ScamShield AI because online scams, phishing emails, fake messages, and impersonation are becoming increasingly difficult to recognize. Many people may trust suspicious messages without understanding the risks. As an AI and Machine Learning student, I wanted to apply my technical knowledge to a real-world cybersecurity problem and help people make safer decisions online.
What I Built
I developed ScamShield AI, an AI-powered cybersecurity application designed to analyze suspicious emails and messages. It helps identify potential scam indicators, assess risk, explain warning signs, and recommend safer actions. My goal was to make cybersecurity easier to understand for everyday users.
How I Built It
I used Antigravity to help develop the application. The project uses a frontend for user interaction and a Python-based FastAPI backend for processing requests. I worked on connecting the application components and creating a workflow in which users can submit suspicious messages and view the analysis results. I also tested the application with different email examples to evaluate how it handled potentially safe and suspicious content.
Challenges I Faced
One of my main challenges was making the results useful and understandable rather than simply labeling a message as safe or dangerous. Different messages can contain misleading language, and not every suspicious-looking word indicates a scam. Testing different examples helped me identify areas for improvement in classification, risk assessment, and explanations. I also had to manage development and submission tasks within the hackathon timeline.
What I Learned
Through this project, I learned more about AI-assisted development, API integration, application testing, cybersecurity awareness, and presenting technical ideas as practical solutions. I also learned that AI predictions should be treated carefully and that users need understandable explanations to make informed decisions.
Future Vision
I would like to improve ScamShield AI with URL reputation checks, multilingual detection, suspicious attachment analysis, and real-time alerts.
My motivation is to use AI not only to build technology, but also to help people protect themselves in the digital world.
