Inspiration
Online scams, phishing messages, and social engineering attacks are becoming increasingly common. We wanted to build a tool that helps everyday users identify suspicious messages before they share sensitive information or fall victim to scams.
What it does
ScamLens analyzes suspicious messages and detects potential scam indicators such as urgency tactics, credential theft attempts, financial scams, and phishing attacks. It provides a risk score, warning signs, safety recommendations, and an AI-powered explanation.
How we built it
We built ScamLens using Python and Flask for the backend, HTML/CSS/JavaScript for the frontend, and Google Gemini AI for intelligent scam analysis. A custom rule-based detection engine is combined with AI-powered assessment to improve accuracy and explainability.
Challenges we ran into
We faced challenges integrating the Gemini API, connecting the frontend and backend correctly, handling JSON responses, and deploying the project structure while ensuring all components worked together smoothly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a fully functional AI-assisted scam detection platform within the hackathon timeframe. We integrated real AI analysis, created a clean user interface, and developed a system that provides meaningful security insights to users.
What we learned
We learned Flask web development, Git and GitHub workflows, API integration, frontend-backend communication, and how AI can be combined with traditional rule-based systems to solve real-world cybersecurity problems.
What's next for ScamLens
Integrating it with the daily message app and making sure that older people or any youngsters dont fall into this kind of pishing scams and helping for better India.
