Inspiration

Phishing scams and fraudulent links are increasingly sophisticated, often catching everyday users off guard before they realize the risk. We wanted to build a simple, lightweight tool that empowers users to verify safety before clicking.

What it does

ScamGuard AI is a Manifest V3 Chrome extension that acts as a quick link checker. Users can paste any URL into the extension popup to instantly analyze it for HTTPS encryption status and suspicious keywords (such as "login" or "verify") often utilized in scam emails.

How we built it

  • HTML, CSS, & JavaScript for the extension interface and detection logic.
  • Manifest V3 Chrome extension framework.
  • GitHub for version control and code hosting.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a clean, lightweight UI that integrates smoothly as a browser action popup while ensuring immediate response times for link analysis.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully building a fully functional Manifest V3 Chrome extension that instantly detects phishing indicators and provides clear warnings.

What we learned

Gained deeper hands-on experience developing Manifest V3 Chrome extensions and structuring browser-based security utilities.

What's next for ScamGuard AI

Expanding the keyword database, integrating automated threat feeds, and publishing the extension to the Chrome Web Store for public access.
