What inspired you?
Our project was inspired by the growing risk of AI-driven phone scams, particularly those targeting older generations. With advancements in voice replication technology, scammers can now mimic the voices of loved ones, making fraud more convincing than ever. We wanted to address this vulnerability by creating an accessible, engaging training course that helps senior citizens recognize and respond to such threats.
What did you learn?
Through our research, we discovered that many seniors lack the digital literacy needed to identify AI-generated scams. We analyzed existing digital safety programs, UI/UX design principles for seniors, and the psychology behind tech adoption in older adults. This helped us design a course that balances simplicity with effectiveness, ensuring users can easily navigate and absorb the material.
How did you build your project?
We initially envisioned a comprehensive app covering multiple AI-related scams, but due to time constraints, we narrowed our focus to phone scams. Instead of an app, we opted for a streamlined website with a linear, interactive course. Our design featured large buttons, clear text, warm colors, and icon-based answers to enhance usability for our target audience. The content includes an introduction to AI voice replication and a quiz that challenges users to distinguish between real and AI-generated voices.
What challenges did you face?
One major challenge was simplifying complex AI concepts for an older audience. We had to ensure the content was both educational and engaging without being overwhelming. Another hurdle was designing an intuitive interface that accommodates limited tech familiarity. By testing different layouts and incorporating feedback from UX design principles, we refined our course to be as user-friendly as possible.
