The Cyber Ninja team have always agreed on one thing in relation to cybersecurity and the internet: scamming is a huge problem and it has gotten way out of hand with much too little regulation. The truth is, the internet is a lawless place for the most part and scammers get away with more than you might think. Our team was specifically inspired by stories of major scams that could have been easily prevented by scam detection software along with closer more personal instances of friends falling for suspicious links or websites that hack into accounts, steal personal info, or take large sums of money. It happens all around us and all too often we see the familiar sight of a friend's social media account once again taken by hackers spreading suspicious scam links around the web that trick people into loosing their own. While we knew technology has already been developed to do similar tasks against common scams, advanced Artificial Intelligence has not been fully integrated in this field to fully analyze links or sketchy internet sites which can actually judge based on the entire internet's knowledge utilizing user feedback from credible sites such as Reddit.

The aim of the project is to target audiences most vulnerable to these scams and actually educate them through real experience when the inevitable situations occur where a scam is present. When any suspicious website, link, or message is detected, the code will first send it through several libraries and lists checking its credibility, popularity, and other factors that determine if it could be problematic. It then uses advanced Artificial Intelligence to browse the internet on anything related to the specific scam link or anything similar. The combination of all of this creates a score which represents an educated guess on if the link is safe and what the context around it would suggest fully explaining the entire process to users so they understand why it actually is a scam.

This was built with a clear and concise plan to stop common scams on social media sites such as Discord and this simple goal started a coding project that was expanded upon by Claude Code to include the entire internet now being a fully functioning scam prevention and protection tool any user can use to keep their browsing safe.

Throughout the creation and coding process, we ran into a barrage of issues and challenges that took a lot to overcome ranging from misunderstandings and errors based on AI prompts that resulted in code failures to total compatibility issues when merging code. Though it was difficult and straight up demotivating at times, we are proud to say we worked through it all and are proud of our accomplishments in the project especially for the amount of time we had to complete it.

We learned so much when creating Scam Suppressor especially involving cybersecurity and protecting from scams. We had to push all our technical knowledge aside and really think from the perspective of an average user or inexperienced person browsing the internet backtracking to find and solve the exact problems that result in people being scammed.

The future of Scam Suppressor is bright and we have intentions to bring access to the entire web and even a desktop application that works anywhere and everywhere. We hope to work out any further bugs and never stray from our original goal to enhance user friendliness creating the most accessible and simplistic tool that can help anyone even the most vulnerable users from tempting scams.
