Inspiration
We were inspired by GPT Checker a website centered around checking if any writing was from ChatGPT. We liked how the website would analyze all the text and flag it if it found patterns similar to writing from ChatGPT. Our app has a similar premise, scanning messages, but with a different goal which is to help the elderly determine if messages are scams.
What it does
Our app uses an algorithm to analyze key words in messages and emails, and then detect if its a scam or it is not a scam. Right now our algorithm is not really advanced, but we are planning to make an AI to adapt to scam patterns.
How we built it
HTML :Website format ,Chunks of information CSS:Styling Javascript :To input functions into the code.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we faced was making the UI. We hadn't made many menus in the past and at first, our site looked very bare-bones and plain. We had to research on how to make our site look better and after much trial and error, have a final product that looks a lot better. Another challenge we faced was making the buttons go to different parts of the window. We made buttons go to new windows, but never a part of the same. So learning was a struggle at first, but after making the first couple the rest were easier.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The accomplishment we're most proud of is definitely the UI. Again we didn't know much about UI design so being able to look at our site after and be like damn, that looks pretty good makes us proud of ourselves. One other thing we are proud of is how well we were able to work together, we not only made something we were both happy with but also had fun while making it.
What we learned
We learned a lot about hackathons and how to manage time and present an idea. Before this hackathon we had not known anything about developing apps, but this hackathon gave us insight on what we should do for not only this but future app ideas, and hackathons. We also learnt a lot about cyber security and what elderly people need.
What's next for FraudDetectorAI
The next step for FraudDetectorAI is expanding our Algorithm's capabilities with AI. We can also turn our beta website into a mobile app so it is easier to access for our target demographic which is the elderly.
