As our dependence on technology has grown, so have the number of opportunities for nefarious actors to abuse the trust of users for monetary gain. Email and phone scams are among the most common scams, and are unfortunately highly effective against the elderly, and those with less experience with technology. Although those experienced with technology rarely, if ever, fall victim to such scams, those immune to the efforts of scammers have yet to create a service that catalogues email addresses and phone numbers from known scammers, making it difficult or even outright impossible for cautious, but still vulnerable users to know for sure that they are being scammed.

At its core, our website relies on reports from users of phone numbers and email addresses that are known to be from scammers. This underlying system will be complemented with a UI that is intuitive for all users, catering to those who are most vulnerable to the scams we aim to prevent.

Our website is built using Node.JS and React, with MongoDB as our database software. Although this is the first foray into web development for multiple members of our team, and our website is not quite complete, the experience and knowledge we have gained has been invaluable. Following the conclusion of MACathon, we plan to continue development and eventually deploy the website.
