What's next for ScaleSensei — music practice on Fire TV
Inspiration
We noticed that many musicians struggle to stay consistent with their practice routines because they lack data-driven feedback. We wanted to utilize the large screen of the Fire TV to create an immersive visual environment that guides a student through musical scales and technical exercises.
What it does
ScaleSensei allows users to record their practice sessions and view detailed performance metrics on their Fire TV. The application uses historical data to predict areas where the musician might struggle and suggests specific exercises to improve. Users can interact with music-backed tracks and track their mastery levels through a seamless interface.
How we built it
We developed the backend using Go to ensure high-performance execution of AWS Lambda functions. We integrated Amazon Forecast to analyze user practice patterns and generate future-looking progress reports. The frontend was built for Amazon Fire TV, utilizing boto3 to manage AWS resources and data retrieval.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was optimizing the latency between the AWS Lambda functions and the Fire TV interface for smooth playback. We also had to ensure that the musical data processed by Amazon Forecast was correctly mapped to specific scales that the end user could easily understand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of successfully implementing a Go-based architecture that handles complex musical data processing at scale. Seeing the predictive models accurately identify weaknesses in practice sessions on the Fire TV dashboard was a major breakthrough for our team.
What we learned
We learned a lot about how to structure Go applications for serverless environments while maintaining low memory footprints. We also gained deep insights into how to leverage Amazon Forecast to provide actionable advice to hobbyists and musicians.
What's next for ScaleSensei
We plan to add more real-time collaborative features where multiple users can practice together on Fire TV. We also intend to expand our library of music tracks to include a wider variety of instruments and complex musical genres.
