Inspiration

Life is full of small things we need to remember: call someone, buy something, book an appointment, prepare for an event, follow up with someone, or remember something for later.

The problem is that capturing these things usually means stopping what we're doing, opening an app, typing, choosing a date, creating a task, and organizing it.

We wanted to make that interaction disappear.

The idea behind Sayso is simple:

Don't organize your thoughts before you tell your assistant. Just talk.

You can speak naturally, even when your thoughts are messy or contain several unrelated things. Sayso figures out what matters and turns it into something actionable.

What it does

Sayso is an AI personal assistant that turns natural speech into organized tasks, reminders, events, and plans.

Instead of creating tasks one by one, you can simply tell Sayso what's on your mind.

For example:

"Saturday is Mom's birthday. I need to buy her a present, order a cake, and check with Dad what time they're coming. Oh, and I need to book a dentist appointment next week."

Sayso can understand the different things hidden inside that single thought and turn them into structured actions.

The goal isn't to make a better to-do list.

The goal is to make capturing and organizing your life as easy as having a conversation.

Sayso also includes a Pro subscription with a free trial, giving users access to the premium assistant experience.

How we built it

Sayso is built as a native Android application using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

The core flow is:

Voice → Speech-to-Text → AI understanding → Structured actions → Reminders

The app captures the user's voice, converts it to text, sends the natural-language input through an AI processing layer, and converts the response into structured data that Sayso can use for tasks and reminders.

We focused on making the experience feel immediate and simple rather than exposing the complexity of what happens behind the scenes.

For monetization, we integrated RevenueCat with Google Play subscriptions, including a free trial for the Pro experience.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was not speech recognition itself — it was understanding what the user actually meant.

People don't naturally speak in perfectly structured commands.

They jump between topics, change their minds, mention dates indirectly, combine several tasks into one sentence, and often leave some information implicit.

We needed Sayso to transform this kind of messy real-world language into useful structure without forcing users to change the way they speak.

Another challenge was keeping the experience simple while still making the AI powerful enough to handle multiple actions from a single voice capture.

And, of course, building, testing, publishing, and integrating monetization into a new app on a very tight hackathon timeline was a challenge of its own.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We built and published a working Android app in a very short amount of time.

More importantly, we created an interaction that feels fundamentally different from filling out a traditional task form:

Tap. Talk. Done.

Sayso can take a natural stream of thoughts and turn it into structured actions without requiring the user to manually create each task.

We're also proud that the app is already a real, publicly available product with Google Play distribution and a working subscription flow powered by RevenueCat.

What we learned

We learned that the hardest part of an AI assistant isn't simply generating an intelligent response.

It's deciding what should happen next.

A useful assistant needs to understand intent, separate multiple actions, recognize important details such as dates and people, and turn all of that into something the user can actually act on.

We also learned that voice changes the interaction model completely.

When typing, users tend to organize their thoughts before entering them.

When speaking, they naturally give you the raw version.

That raw input is messy — but it's also much closer to how people actually think.

What's next for Sayso — AI Personal Assistant

The current version is just the beginning.

We want Sayso to evolve from a voice-powered task manager into a true personal life assistant.

Future versions could include:

Smarter long-term memory Calendar integration Recurring tasks and reminders Proactive daily planning Follow-up reminders based on previous conversations Understanding commitments and promises Email and messaging integrations "What do I need to do today?" conversations Context-aware reminders Better personalization based on how each user manages their life

The long-term vision is simple:

Tell Sayso what's on your mind. Let Sayso figure out the rest.
