What it does
Our project focuses on reducing food waste by tracking users food items in a digital pantry and notifying them when items are close to expiring. Additionally, it recommends recipes based on what users have in their digital pantry, prioritizing them recipes that use up items that are close to expiring.
How we built it
We designed SAVR from the ground up using Figma to create a clean, user-friendly experience that makes reducing food waste simple and enjoyable. Starting with user research, we created a form asking users about their kitchen and waste habits. Figma allowed us to quickly experiment with layouts, colors, and flow, gathering feedback along the way to refine each screen. By using Figma’s collaboration tools, we were able to work more efficiently and create a more usable product.
Challenges we ran into
However, some challenges we ran through would be brainstorming what specific features we would implement more while also considering what other competing apps have done that we could implement better.
Acomplishes we're proud of
We're proud of how much we learned in a short amount of time in addition to pumping out a pretty fleshed our project with unique features, especially because most of us are beginners doing our first design-a-thon
What we learned
From this experience, we learned a lot more about time management in speed designing as well as being about to integrate ideas better to create a valued design that would better benefit the users. We were also able to learn more about food waste from the prompt of the project, which allowed us to realize how much food is wasted due to expiration in different households. This allowed us to work with figma and go deeper into navigating with the application through prototyping, or research eg. competitive research. We developed strong problem-solving skills through prioritizing our user input, doing competitive analysises, and other general research about our topic to come to our design choices we implimented in our app. As beginners, we learned the fundamentals of Figma through wire-framing, mock-ups, and prototyping. We gained valuable insight on how to make this app both functional and visually pleasing through our research and team work.
What's next for SAVR
For SAVR, we want to incorporate more localization features and intregations with mobile services such as similar to instacart and doordash.
