Inspiration
While the group was brainstorming ideas for the hackathon, Best Financial Hack caught our eyes and as a team, we decided to focus on developing an app that specifically allowed high school and college students with budgeting their finances with ease and efficiency. As high schoolers, we understood the issue of needing to save money. They decided to proceed with the SaveNow project to work towards solving the major problem of budgeting as young adults and to promote high schoolers and college students due to its various benefits. In short, the most common consequences of not budgeting include a lack of savings, less financial security, out-of-control spending, a higher likelihood of going into debt, and more financial stress. This is a heartbreaking public issue, and the goal of our project is to support high schoolers and college students to save money.
What it does
The main purpose of this app is to help with budgeting in order to meet the goal of saving for the user’s wants and needs. Our app provides three services in the pursuit of savings and budgeting. We offer a budgeting goal that lets you add all of the items that are on your wishlist, this shows how much of an impact the items you want, have on your finances. We integrated a calendar feature in order to indicate a due date( a date that shows when you will need the money by). And finally, we provide a search engine where users can search for items that are within their budget, so they can get what they need while being within their budget and financial goals.
How we built it
We built a prototype of our app on Figma and it was our first time using this software. We added useful graphics and icons that are easy on the eyes.
Challenges we ran into
Figma provides a fair amount of challenge to any beginner looking to play around with styling and content. We also ran into the problem of not understanding the advanced layers of prototyping in Figma, however after trial and error, we achieved our goal.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our app design, our interactive shop element, the FAQs, and the calendar. We put a lot of thought and effort into our graphic design and color choice and actively pursued ways to connect our project with cutting-edge technology while working to enhance society. Through that effort, we accomplished our goal of creating a warm, welcoming, and modern app.
What we learned
Our team learned how to utilize Figma to make the website clean, efficient, and responsive. It was our first time trying graphic design, so there was a lot of learning involved.
What's next for SaveNow App
With more time, SaveNow’s functionality could be expanded and built upon. We would love to add a fourth feature, which would be about investing in stocks, mutual funds, etc. Additionally, we want to add a debt payoff system to enhance the app’s serviceability to our target audience of high schoolers and college students. This aspect of SaveNow gives users a reason to continue using the app.
