Inspiration

ASHA workers in India do amazing work, but they track hundreds of pregnant mothers and babies using heavy paper books. This takes too much time, and it is easy to miss important delivery dates or vaccine schedules. I wanted to build a simple mobile app to save them time and help them save lives.

What it does

SaveLife Dashboard is a mobile app that works completely offline:

  • High-Risk Alerts: The app automatically calculates delivery dates. If a mother is close to delivering (within 15 days), it flags her name on the home screen immediately.
  • Vaccine Tracking: It creates an automatic schedule for every baby based on their birth date. Workers can check off completed vaccines with one tap.
  • Gemini Voice Assistant: Workers can tap a microphone button and ask health questions out loud. The AI answers them using voice in English or Telugu.

How we built it

I built the app using Flutter and Riverpod so the screen updates smoothly. To make it work in remote villages without any cell service, I used a local SQLite database to store all the data safely on the phone. The voice assistant uses the Gemini 3.5 Flash API combined with Android's built-in speech tools.

Challenges we ran into

Storing and calculating dates offline in a database without crashing the app was difficult, so I had to write a custom date filter. Also, getting a real Android phone to allow microphone and internet permissions for the Gemini AI took some careful troubleshooting before the final app build worked perfectly.

What we learned

I learned how to manage local databases in Flutter, how to handle real Android phone settings and permissions, and how to connect the Gemini API to native voice features. I also learned how to use a .gitignore file to keep my API keys safe and secure on GitHub.

What's next for Savelife

Next, I want to add an automatic cloud sync. This will let workers save everything offline in the village, and the app will automatically back up the data to the main hospital servers the moment the phone connects to the internet again.
