Inspiration
The need to ease the process of finding Halal food in specific US cities for people who desire them
What it does
This app lists the top 5 most rated Halal Restaurants in Philadelphia, DC, and NYC. It provides their address and the integration of google-maps-API make it easier to navigate to the location of any of the listed restaurants.
How we built it
Our app was designed using Android Studio and we integrated the google-maps-API to create easy navigation to the listed restaurants. We created a User Interface giving the user the option to choose from the three cities. From the specific city selected the app proceeds to the next page where we added card views that hold top 5 halal restaurant information and all of these card views were connected to the google maps through the specific latitude and longitude of the restaurant location to provide instant directions.
Challenges we ran into
Turning the idea into a real app was the biggest challenge we came across while developing this project. Moreover, we were also not familiar with using API's so navigating through the google-maps API and navigating it through our app was another great challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to be able to learn new programming skills such as using API. Moreover, we are also proud to cater to the needs of our target market who are interested in halal restaurants.
What we learned
We learned how to develop a project from very scratch which included planning, division of labor, testing and patience.
What's next for HalalEat!
HalalEat will expand its database with more cities integrated into the app over time through the addition of the search bar. Also, we plan to increase the list of restaurants provided from top 5 to top 10.
