What inspired us?

Our project was inspired by our experience working in a food business and witnessing the amount of food wastage that occurs. With further research we discovered that food wastage is also harmful to the environment and that our solution can address the problems of food wastage as well as providing food for those in need.

Who is it for?

The intended users are food businesses/companies as well as people taking food donations. The app will aid in our mission to minimize food wastage and also help protect the environment

What we learned/ How we built our project

We learned a lot about the problems of food wastage in this project and how we could use our knowledge to help address this problem. We accomplished this by creating an app in Figma that would help minimize food wastage by connecting local restaurants/ supermarkets to nearby shelters/ food banks, and donating their leftover or excess food.

How It works

Users first choose whether they are donating excess food or receiving it. If they donate food they can enter in their business' information. If they choose to receive food they can enter the information of their bank or shelter, because of the time constraints we mainly focused on the perspective of a user who is donating food. Based on their input, they will then be prompted to choose locations near them and they can also filter their searches by organization type and distance. Lastly the donator can list the food they are donating and include the product information as well as allergen information, the added food will appear in the donator's "pantry"
