Inspiration

At Save A Bite, we connect local restaurants, grocery stores and farmers with those in need, offering surplus food at reduced prices.

What it does

Save A Bite connects local restaurants and grocery stores with individuals facing food insecurity, allowing users to discover and reserve surplus food at reduced prices. By facilitating the redistribution of excess food, we reduce waste and promote sustainability while ensuring that everyone has access to delicious, healthy meals. Our platform empowers communities to combat hunger and support local businesses, all while aligning with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

How we built it

We built Save-A-Bite using Django for a robust backend and Auth0 for secure user authentication. Our team integrated real-time data handling with responsive design principles, ensuring a seamless user experience. This combination empowers us to effectively combat food waste.

Challenges we ran into

The most challenging part was setting up the user authentication.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we pushed through and successfully set up user authentication and created an avenue for our partners to dynamically list their products for sale without a need to constantly modify the front end.

What's next for Save-A-Bite

Save-A-Bite intends to integrate a Volunteer dashboard, where people looking to give back to their community could offer delivery services and further reduce the cost of food for our dear shoppers.
