Inspiration

Apps like Forest that disincentivize opening other apps, and social good websites like Freerice and Foldit that send a message and bolster community around the app.

What it does

Starts a one-hour 3D simulation that pollutes a virtual world and then slowly cleans it up. Closing the app deletes all progress up to specific checkpoints.

How I built it

We used Unity to create the UI and 3D simulation, and Bolt visual scripting to code creation and destruction behavior.

Challenges I ran into

Workflow technologies for people new to scripting to be able to code in a day and collab merge errors.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We worked as a team to synchronize commits and work on individual parts of the project, and utilized screen and voice chat to maximum potential to coordinate remotely. Got build working with software that has notoriously steep learning curve.

What I learned

Lots about objects and components, 3D scene creation, and the ability to translate pseudocode into blocks to abstract ideas.

What's next for Save the World

We plan on adding currency and community building, as well as more complex scenes.
