Inspiration

Plastic pollution is crippling the earth's ecosystems. The plastics we throw easily make their way into the sea, break down into small pieces and damage the living creatures. We believe that the problem results from not only a lack of means but also awareness. Simply lecturing or presenting facts is probably not an effective way to raise awareness, especially among young children. We therefore designed a game as an interactive and engaging approach to educate children the impact of plastic crisis and develop a sense of reducing the use of plastic products.

What it does

In this game players will try to save Nemo from plastic pollution in the sea. The game includes two difficulty modes and five levels. It gives a vivid sense of how plastic pollution significantly impacts waters and endangers sea life.

How we built it

The game was written in Scratch (link).

Challenges we ran into

Scratch does not provide a good way for version control. We had to take turns editing the project.

A fun game! And introducing the idea of "microplastics".

What's next for Saving Nemo!

The next step will be to develop the game into a mobile App. Additionally we plan to add links to campaigns, NGOs and other companies that tackle Plastic Ocean issue so that players can go to their websites through our game.
