Inspiration
Designed around the cyber-security theme of the Hackathon, we wanted to create a fun way for people to learn the basics of cyber-security while playing our game.
What it does
You are playing a story game where you are an IT worker at Texas A&M. During the story you receive multiple attacks from a hacker to your email and network, so you must defend these attacks to win the game. These attacks include a phishing attack, a man-in-middle-interception, a ddos attack, and an SQL query. You will also will do decryption and learn what makes a strong password.
Listed Concepts:
- Phishing attacks
- Strong Passwords
- Man-in-Middle interceptions
- DDOS attacks
- SQL Query
How we built it
We built our game by first documenting out multiple challenges that we wanted a player to face, and then formed a story around them to link them all together. The game is run in a UI with 4 tabs that the player interacts with throughout the game. Each challenge is loaded into the UI as the story progresses.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we had was thinking of a story to wrap around all these cyber challenges. This was probably the longest part of our project; brainstorming the story.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
That we have a working UI and game that tells a mini story. Although a little witty, it still teaches you some attacks of cyber security so that was the goal.
What we learned
More knowledge of cyber-security attacks ourselves. How to code UI elements.
What's next for Save HowdyHack from Hacker Bevo (CyberSecurity game)
To update the story so thats its more in-depth, and to all more attack challenges that we could not include in the game due to time restraints among other things.
