Saura is a voice-first beauty companion built for iPhone Duo that turns the device into an intelligent, hands-free vanity assistant. Fully open, it helps users translate viral beauty routines into a personalized plan using products they already own; partially folded on a vanity, it becomes a self-standing mirror and visual coach, showing face guidance above the fold and routine steps, timers, and conversation below; closed, it remembers routines, products, progress, and appointments through quick voice questions. By combining fold-aware layouts, voice interaction, camera continuity, and personal routine history, Saura makes beauty discovery easier to understand and daily routines easier to follow without constantly touching the phone.

How we built it

Saura is a native SwiftUI app built with iOS 27.1 and the iPhone Duo simulator, using Bitrig and Claude Code. We designed the interface around Duo’s fold-aware layouts so Saura can adapt from a compact voice experience to a tabletop vanity coach. Supadata fetches creator-video transcripts, an LLM converts them into personalized routine slides streamed line by line, and on-device speech recognition lets users control the experience with voice commands such as “next,” “repeat,” and “show me where.”

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was making the experience feel like one continuous product rather than separate layouts for each Duo pose. We had to keep the conversation, routine state, and visual guidance consistent while the device opened, folded, and closed. We also had to make voice interaction reliable in a noisy hackathon environment, handle unpredictable transcript and LLM responses, and keep the product focused instead of trying to build every possible skincare, shopping, and dermatology feature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created a consumer experience that feels native to iPhone Duo: fully open, Saura helps interpret creator routines; folded on a vanity, it becomes a self-standing, hands-free visual and voice coach; closed, it becomes a quick beauty-memory assistant. We are especially proud that Saura translates overwhelming beauty content into a simple routine based on products the user already owns, instead of only encouraging more purchases.

What we learned

We learned that the best iPhone Duo experiences are not just larger interfaces—they change purpose with the device’s physical pose. Duo is most powerful when it becomes part of the real-world activity: a vanity mirror, visual guide, stable control surface, and voice companion. We also learned that AI is most useful when it reduces complexity and gives users confidence, rather than adding another layer of recommendations.

What's next for Saura

Next, we want to add product-inventory scanning, routine and skin-history tracking, creator-video imports from more sources, and personalized routines based on user preferences and saved professional guidance. Longer term, Saura could connect users with verified dermatologists and beauty professionals, support procedure aftercare, and offer Aura Plus subscriptions for advanced history, routines, and product intelligence—while remaining clear that it is a beauty companion, not a diagnostic tool.
