Inspiration
We wanted to create a high-stakes, gamified experience that not only entertains but also stress-tests the Lightning Network in real-time. Inspired by hackathons, cyberpunk aesthetics, and the spirit of decentralized resilience, "Satoshi's Gauntlet" was born — an ultimate blackout battle for Bitcoin believers.
What it does
Satoshi's Gauntlet simulates a global internet blackout where players must send as many Lightning transactions as possible within a 24-hour countdown. It tracks transaction speed, routing success, and channel liquidity while showcasing a live leaderboard. The goal? Break the network to make it stronger.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create an immersive, neon-styled dashboard that updates in real-time. The interface includes a countdown timer, leaderboard, player metrics, and simulated network stats. The entire UX is designed to feel like a cyberpunk command center.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing real-time, performant visual updates
- Creating realistic Lightning Network simulations without full node access
- Balancing aesthetics with clarity and responsiveness across devices
- Crafting a gamified experience that feels premium and engaging
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Nailed a one-of-a-kind visual theme with a luxury cyberpunk flair
- Built a fully interactive and dynamic web experience
- Made complex Lightning Network concepts feel exciting and accessible
- Created a compelling narrative around decentralization and resilience
What we learned
- How to simulate network behavior with limited resources
- The power of strong UI/UX in storytelling and engagement
- Lightning Network fundamentals and real-world bottlenecks
- Techniques for building high-performance, futuristic frontends
What's next for SATOSHI'S GAUNTLET
- Add real Lightning wallet integration (LNURL/Auth)
- Enable real TX sending with optional sats rewards
- Introduce badges, streaks, and power-ups for top performers
- Launch global monthly Gauntlet events with social sharing
- Expand to include educational missions and mini-games about Bitcoin
