Inspiration
I really like old-school arcade and computer games, and enjoy making games in Java. I also have a background in art and find it super fun to mix my hacks with some of my own drawings. For this hack, I wanted to make a de-stressing game to play for when you've just had enough of people for the day.
What it does
You get to play as Sass the 'Quatch (a Sasquatch!) who is simply trying to enjoy a nice day in peace, when suddenly, he is found by a slew of pesky photographers. They insist on bothering Sass, and taking their picture. Thankfully, Sass has been hording berries. So, naturally, Sass must stop these photographers from taking their picture and telling their friends. You must stop them with berries!
How we built it
Fully built in Java with all graphics drawn by hand (on a tablet) during the hack.
Challenges we ran into
Time taken to draw everything and working solo was a lot, and it definitely took away from building more of a story, adding more features, fixing some glitches, and making a more complex game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Super happy with the completion of the MVP and the addition of some more game pieces, in a good spot to build on the game even more.
What we learned
Switching the images for the sasquatch was a fun challenge but also very fun and I learned a lot. I also leaned more about Java and object oriented programming, and personal time limitations.
What's next for Sass the 'Quatch's Berry Bad Day
Add in some more features for the game: -Each time Sass is photographed, more photographers get wind on their existence and start to show up -Add a counter for the number of pictures taken of Sass so there is an actual end to the game -Add a mega berry that blows away all the photographers and resets one of the pictures taken of Sass -Add more threading to make the game smoother
