Saso's Pets

Inspiration

I have 4 kids myself and I am always interested in mixing the fun of games with the importance of learning. There have been many popular and successful mobile apps in this space and I wanted to try and bring that into an Alexa skill and utilize some of the unique features of Alexa as well.

What it does

Professor Saso has a lot of pets that keep him busy. Players are asked to help feed, bathe, and put the animals to sleep. To accomplish these tasks the players must answer math facts, spell animal names, or answer animal trivia. Get enough right answers and you can complete the challenge and earn merit badges to unlock more animals.

How I built it

Lots of trial and error and lots of searching for help.

Challenges I ran into

I always seem to bite off a little more than I can chew. Everything took longer than I planned. That is just the way software dev goes though.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Almost all of the art is hand drawn by me. It took a lot of time but was important to try and stand out.

What's next for Saso's Pets

I want to complete the missing art so that it all matches and continue to add new pets and challenges. As of submission on 1/21, the skill is still going through polish and content creation.. but I am proud of what I accomplished with Alexa Presentation Language (APL) and think it was worth showcasing.
