Inspiration

As SASE chapter E-Board members, we’ve experienced firsthand how each SASE chapter currently uses multiple platforms for communication, which can create friction between SASE National, chapter officers, and general members. We created SASEbook to bring those experiences together in one place and make it easier for the SASE community to stay connected.

What it does

SASEBook is a shared platform for SASE members, chapters, and sponsors. Members can discover people, chapters, events, sponsors, and opportunities. Chapters can create their own pages, announce events, and keep members updated, while the map makes it easy to explore the SASE community around you.

How we built it

We started by brainstorming problems we had experienced within SASE and deciding which ones we could realistically solve during the hackathon. We designed the app around those needs, split features between team members, and built the frontend and backend together. We used Next.js/TypeScript and Supabase to create the platform and manage our data.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was connecting all of our features and data while multiple people were working on different parts of the project. We also had to make decisions about what we could realistically finish within the hackathon timeframe.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we were able to turn SASEbook from an idea into a working project in such a short amount of time. More importantly, we’re proud of how we worked as a team. Whenever someone hit a roadblock, we helped each other work through it, and we made sure to celebrate the smaller milestones along the way. Those moments made seeing everything come together even more rewarding.

What we learned

We learned a lot about collaborating through GitHub, working with a shared database, and integrating different parts of a full-stack application. We also learned how important it is to prioritize features and communicate clearly when developing as a team.

What's next for SASEbook

Next, we want to improve SASEbook’s social and networking features, give chapters more tools to manage their communities, and expand the map and discovery system. Ultimately, we would like SASEbook to become a platform that SASE members can continue using beyond the hackathon.
