Inspiration
We all know that feeling. We open YouTube, fired up, ready to learn something new. Three videos in, you're unstoppable. And then... life happens. A week passes. A month. That playlist you were so excited about? Buried. Forgotten. Gone.
We asked ourselves a simple question: what if learning didn't have to rely on willpower alone?
The Problem
Millions of people start online courses on YouTube every single day, full of intention. But intention alone doesn't create a habit — nothing brings you back to finish what you started. Without something actively pulling you back, even the best content in the world just sits there, unwatched. The knowledge you need to grow is one click away, and yet somehow, it slips through your fingers.
The Solution
Sarthi is your study companion on YouTube.
It's built on a simple truth from Atomic Habits by James Clear: you don't rise to the level of your goals — you fall to the level of your systems. So I built you a system.
And I don't just mean that as a metaphor. Let me show you how it actually works, end to end. It starts right where you already are — on a YouTube playlist page. We added a single, unmissable button: "Set Reminder." Click it, and a floating widget opens right there on the page. No new tab, no context switch. From this widget, you choose:
When — daily, weekly, or monthly
Which videos — pick specific videos from the playlist, or the whole thing
Hit "Set Reminder" and here's where it gets interesting.
That single click fires a request to our backend. Our server calls the YouTube Data API to pull the full playlist — every video, its metadata, everything you selected — and stores it in our database, tagged with your chosen frequency, your user ID, and the schedule you just set.
But storing a reminder isn't the same as delivering one. So we needed something that never sleeps — something watching the clock for thousands of users at once, each with their own frequency, their own schedule.
That's where Celery comes in.
Celery runs as our job scheduler in the background, scanning the database continuously — checking, second by second, whose reminder is due right now. The moment it finds a match, it triggers the notification pipeline, and your playlist lands straight in your inbox — obvious, visible, and impossible to forget.
