Inspiration
India has thousands of welfare schemes, but millions of citizens—especially in villages, with low literacy, or little digital access—never benefit.
- Information is scattered
- Forms are confusing
- Language feels too official
We wanted to make this simpler and more human. That’s why we built Sarkari Mitra—a compassionate GenAI assistant that feels like a friend helping you step by step.
What it does
Sarkari Mitra helps citizens:
- 🗣️ Talk or chat in Hindi/English
- 🎯 Get matched to relevant schemes (farmer, student, pregnant woman, etc.)
- 📝 Understand forms in simple everyday words
- 🔗 Pre-fill details using Aadhaar and bank info (where possible)
- 🔊 Use voice support if they cannot read or write
It turns complex welfare systems into a friendly conversation.
How we built it
- Built on IBM watsonx Agent Development Kit (ADK)
- Designed a voice + chat interface
- Created a scheme-matching engine
- Added multilingual support (Hindi + English)
- Integrated Aadhaar/bank linking for pre-filled forms
Challenges we ran into
- Collecting and structuring scattered scheme data
- Making conversations sound natural in multiple languages
- Ensuring privacy & trust with sensitive details
- Designing an app that feels simple, not technical
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Turning paperwork into conversations
- Building a working prototype for real scheme matching
- Adding voice-first interaction for non-readers
- Designing with inclusivity at the core 💡
What we learned
- Tech is powerful, but empathy + simplicity matter more
- Inclusive design means thinking of language, voice, and culture
- GenAI can be the bridge between citizens and government benefits
[ \text{No citizen should miss a benefit due to literacy, access, or bureaucracy.} ]
