Inspiration
Our team is interested in asset management and banking. We realized that a lot of our peers (and ourselves included) are unaware financial resources and investment strategies. Sarimo is a way to simplify the complexities of optimal asset allocation.
What it does
Sarimo recommends how you should allocate your assets based on a template that includes accounts such as gross income, budget essentials, emergency funds, outstanding debts, and 401k.
How we built it
We used a flask framework with bootstrap, html, javascript, and css to host a webapp that took in a template csv with asset information based on the user. From there, we parsed it, and displayed a sankey diagram that suggests how user should allocate their assets based on their accounts. Lastly, we used heroku to host the web application publicly.
Challenges we ran into
- Building a front end without knowing any javascript, css, or html.
- The learning curve for proper asset management.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Building a front end without knowing any javascript, css, or html.
- Hosting an actual web application anyone can use.
What we learned
- Building a front end.
- How asset allocation works.
- Hosting apps on heroku.
- Pandas in python
What's next for Sarimo
1) Build out our business logic to account for more factors 2) Have a front end form instead of a csv for filling out information 3) Login feature so users can save and edit their information 4) Hook up features with any existing financial API's 5) TBD
