Inspiration
To teach the English curriculum in a virtual classroom with AI driven avatars seemed like fun.
What it does
Sarah is an avatar in a virtual 3d environment. You can click on her and ask questions on the US spelling curriculum for K1-6. She then reply's with words and information. eg: "What words are in year 3, term 2, week 8." or "Tell me about year 5, term 1, week 7". There is 1-6 years, 1-4 terms per year and 1-10 weeks per term. That makes for 6 years of lessons comprising of 240 lesson plans. All accessible with just 2 questions.
How I built it
It is built with a wit.ai agent and an avatar added to the LearnBrite platform with NodeJS middleware building the responses.
Challenges I ran into
Hooking up these various platforms to work together.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Getting this all working and creating a virtual classroom! Also building an entire educational app series based on the same curriculum with the SpellNow series.
What I learned
Cool tools and solutions like wit.ai and LearnBrite are available for programmers to use in awesome innovative ways. Building things quickly with these tools is amazing and accessible to everyone.
What's next for Sarah
I would like to one day see Sarah teaching in classrooms around the world.
