Inspiration

The reason our team created this website was because we felt that we would have appreciated a website or app like this when we were frosh at UC Santa Cruz. The first year holds a lot of change for a lot of students who are often not well-acquainted with Santa Cruz. So we wanted to help them explore the world of UC Santa Cruz and beyond outside of academics. We felt that giving them an interactive website with lots of information about different spots on and off campus would help.

What it does

The user is presented with three categories to choose from at first: Beaches, UC Santa Cruz Spots, and Santa Cruz Spots. Then our website lets the user choose 'Yes' or 'No' for each spot from a list of locations. After finishing their choices, they will be led to a personalized map and itinerary with their location choices.

How we built it

We used HTML, CSS, Svelte, and Firebase to host our website. We were able to collaborate through GitHub, where our code is available.

Challenges we ran into

This was our first time using Svelte and Firebase. It was challenging to figure out how to host the website and use Svelte with little to no experience in both of the aspects. We especially had a difficult time hosting our website on Firebase.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are extremely proud of producing a minimum viable product of our website in such a short period of time. We are also proud that we learned to implement Svelte and Firebase into our project. Our team also contained one member who just completed their first hackathon!

What we learned

We learned to implement Svelte and Firebase into our projects. We also learned more about version control and Git. We also managed to learn more about Node.js and the Node Package Manager through its implementation into our website.

What's next for Santa Cruz 360

Firstly, we want to expand to gain more users. This will allow us to add more features to the website. One such feature is implementing an AI algorithm that will recommend locations to the user based on their previous choices and popular choices of other users in Santa Cruz.
