☁️ Inspiration
We were assigned this project for the Orientation Hackathon to create a portfolio using Flask and Python. We were inspired to name our portfolio after the Sanskrit name Sankalp because Sankalp means determination and we were determined to complete this project and learn new things during its process.
🚧 What It Does
This portfolio follows the tasks which we were assigned to fulfill which are, "add a photo of yourself to the website”, “Add an ‘About yourself’ section to the website”, “Add your previous work experience”, “Add your hobbies (images)”, “Add your current/previous education”, “Add a map of all the cool locations/countries you visited”. This also fulfills the flask tasks like running the Flask app, adding templates, creating a hobby page, and adding a menu bar.
🛠️ How We Built It
I decided to use Visual Studio to write the flask python and HTML code for the project because I found a video that guided me on how to do so. I downloaded Flask using the Command Prompt terminal and python3 terminal as well.
👨🏾💻 Challenges We Ran Into
We had no difficulties writing the actual code itself but we did have trouble figuring out how to use flask at first. We also had some trouble installing Flask at first but once we looked into the resources given to us to download it, it helped us download the software. It also took us a while to actually start the project because it took us a while to actually meet up and talk about it.
👍 Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
I am proud that we were able to learn how to use Flask within a few days and create a project using it. I am also proud that we were able to use python within our website.
📙 What We Learned
It was our first time using Flask and even though it was a bit tricky to figure out at first, we eventually were able to use the resources and found a video to help us create the Flask Portfolio. This project also helped us review how to create issues and pull requests on GitHub.
🔜 What's next for Sankalp Portfolio
Next, we want to fulfill any future tasks that are given to us to do with this project.
