Inspiration
I was inspired by the urgent, recurring needs of Thalassemia patients, especially children who rely on regular blood transfusions to survive. The story of families struggling to find timely donors pushed us to create a real-time, intelligent, and scalable solution that could truly save lives.
What it does
Sangam connects Thalassemia patients with nearby blood donors in real-time, predicts donor availability using AI, and offers a secure platform for patients to communicate with doctors. It also includes an educational hub and integrates with systems.
How we built it
We developed Sangam as a mobile-first platform using Flutter for cross-platform UI, Node.js for the backend, Firebase & PostgreSQL for real-time and structured storage, and Python (scikit-learn) for donor prediction. We designed an AI model to forecast donor availability using features like donation frequency and last donation date.
Challenges we ran into
We faced hurdles in accessing real donor data, maintaining data privacy, and simulating real-time matching logic. Integrating with e-RaktKosh APIs posed constraints due to limited documentation during the hackathon phase.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built a working prototype with real-time donor-patient matching. Designed an AI model to forecast donor availability. Created a simple and intuitive UI for patients, donors, and doctors. Ensured data privacy and laid the foundation for e-RaktKosh integration.
What we learned
We learned how AI can help solve real-world health challenges, especially in donor behavior prediction. We also explored healthcare system gaps, the importance of user trust in medical apps, and how to design for both urgency and empathy.
What's next for Sangam: The Lifeline Network
Post-hackathon, we plan to pilot the app with Blood Warriors and real users. Improve the AI model using live data. Add multilingual support and voice guidance. Expand partnerships with hospitals and blood banks across India.
