Inspiration

Sand is the most extracted material on Earth, but still no one actually thinks about it. We dig up tens of billions of tonnes a year, far faster than rivers can replace it, while demolition sites pay to dump concrete that could be reused.

What it does

Sand Loop connects people with demolition rubble to people who need aggregate. Users post and browse listings on a map, get guidance on what each material can be used for, and see an impact dashboard of natural sand and gravel avoided.

How we built it

Three people, one day, recognized that this resource is also being consumed. We used Code X, Vercel, raw HTML, and Claude to develop this product.

Challenges we ran into

Our research showed the real barriers aren’t just visibility but transport costs, quality trust, and regulation, so we reshaped the app around those. We also had to keep impact numbers honest and cut features to finish in a day.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A working public app, not a mockup, built on real data. We’re upfront that recycled aggregate can’t replace river sand everywhere. We helped solve a niche problem with not many current solutions.

What we learned

A sustainability idea only works if it fits how construction really runs: schedules, distance, standards, and trust. We also learned how far AI tools can take non-coders in small, testable steps.

What's next for Sand Loop - Circular Aggregate Network

Pilot in one city with demolition firms and recycling plants, add quality certification, and connect to demolition permits so supply is visible before buildings come down.
