Inspiration

The starting point of Sanctuary of the Heart was a simple thought: if a card deck wasn’t used to predict outcomes, but was instead a place where you could temporarily set down the weight in your heart, what would that look like? I imagined that place as a forest, where animals sleep in peace and emotions are allowed to slowly settle. This teaser film tries to give shape to that feeling of “a resting place for the heart,” so that even people who don’t yet know the project can briefly experience what it’s like to be held gently for a moment.

What it does

This teaser is the first public appearance of Sanctuary of the Heart | Animal Oracle Cards. In under a minute, it only does a few things: it leads the viewer into a forest, lets them see sleeping animals, hear the music, and read a few short lines of text. It does not explain features, and it does not try to sell divination. It simply delivers one message: this is a space where your heart can pause and you can re-gather your inner self; the animal-like forces it hints at may have already been inside you, waiting to be noticed.

How we built it

The process was roughly: first, write the key lines this teaser needed to say, then build images around a few core motifs—“forest,” “sleeping animals,” and “a safe, quiet space”—using image generation tools. In the editing software, slow zooms, pans, and fades were added to give the static images a sense of breath, and the visual rhythm was arranged according to the structure of the music. Finally, the title and the project’s core tagline, “Discover the animal power within you,” were overlaid, so the film stands both as a poetic short piece and as a clear doorway into the project’s world.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was stripping away everything unnecessary. On one hand, AI very easily produces “cool-looking” images that don’t actually fit the atmosphere, so a lot of selection meant constantly deleting things that were impressive but wrong for this piece. On the other hand, in such a short runtime, trying to convey both emotion and the outline of the project can quickly turn it into an information-heavy ad. A lot of time ended up going into subtraction: removing feature explanations, reducing word count, and leaving only the minimum needed for people to understand that “this is a space where you can set yourself down for a while.”

Accomplishments that we're proud of

What I’m happy with is that this film manages to distill the real tone of the project: it’s a quiet entrance that is willing to sit with emotions. Even if viewers have no idea what an oracle deck is, most can still feel from the visuals and music that “this work is about the inner world, not about selling a feature.” In terms of AI use, generated images are only the source material; the core still lies in human choices around pacing, silence, and text. That balance is what I feel is worth being seen.

What we learned

This production made me more certain that AI is best used as a visual lab, not as a director. You can hand the model a lot of image trials, but the story rhythm, emotional curve, and amount of text still have to be decided by yourself in the end. I also learned that “slowness” needs to be designed — within an environment full of information and stimulation, intentionally reducing variation and using fewer words can actually help viewers focus more on how the piece feels. Another insight is that, as long as you’re transparent about the role AI plays, many people find it easier to understand what the work is really trying to express, instead of getting stuck on the technology alone.

What's next for Sanctuary of the Heart | A Place to Rest Your Heart

Next, the focus will be on extending more film work connected to the Sanctuary of the Heart universe. This teaser will be treated as Chapter One. Future pieces will center on different animals and keywords, evolving into a series of short films—some like small emotional fragments, others closer to fuller inner journeys. Longer formats or interactive, “divination-through-film” experiences are also on the table, so that viewers don’t just watch a single teaser and leave, but can spend more time dwelling inside this visual universe.
