Inspiration I run r/GetMotivatedMindset 100K+ members. My engagement engine: casual questions and throwback prompts posted at precise times to maximize discussion. ~200 posts per month, each at a different time slot. Reddit's native mod scheduler meant doing this one post at a time. No bulk. No image support. No performance data. What should've been 10 minutes consumed hours every month. That's not a workflow. That's punishment. What It Does Samurai Salvo is a Devvit-powered post scheduler that lives directly inside Reddit.
Bulk scheduling upload 200 posts via JSON or CSV, fire the whole month in minutes Image post scheduling Reddit's native scheduler doesn't support this. Samurai does. Stats dashboard 24h and 7-day upvotes + comments tracked per post, downloadable for mod analysis
How We Built It Built on Devvit's web platform using TypeScript. Core scheduler uses Devvit's native scheduler + redis primitives. Jobs stored in Redis sorted sets (score = scheduledAt Unix ms) fire order stays correct even across 200-job bulk imports. Image posts required: upload to Reddit CDN first → store CDN URL in job payload → attach on fire. Stats use two deferred scheduler callbacks (24h + 7d post-fire) that write back to a separate Redis stats index. UI is a four-tab dashboard: Schedule / Bulk / Jobs / Stats. Challenges We Ran Into Image scheduling was hardest no clean Devvit API for image posts. Had to reverse-engineer the upload → CDN URL → post creation chain and handle failures so a bad image doesn't silently drop a scheduled job. Time zone correctness at scale bulk imports normalize everything to Unix ms on ingest, not at fire time. Fire-time normalization breaks Redis sort order across 200 jobs. Stats reliability Devvit scheduler callbacks drift. Built stats queue as sorted set with idempotent writes so duplicate or missed callbacks don't corrupt data. Accomplishments That We're Proud Of The results speak: r/GetMotivatedMindset was sitting at rank 25+ in category. One week of consistent, well-timed posting powered by Samurai Salvo sub climbed to rank 12 and is on track to break top 10 within days. Consistency at scale works. The tool made consistency effortless. What We Learned Devvit's Redis + scheduler combo is genuinely powerful for async, time-sensitive workflows. A "simple scheduler" becomes a multi-queue coordination problem the moment you add recurrence, stats, and image attachments. Best tools come from real pain. Building for yourself with 200 posts queued and a deadline makes every design decision sharper.
What's Next for Samurai Salvo
AI-assisted scheduling - suggest optimal post times based on historical stats Template library - save and reuse post formats across months Multi-subreddit support - one dashboard, multiple subs Engagement alerts - notify mod when post hits threshold so they can pin or crosspost fast Targeting top 10 sub ranking - the data is already proving the strategy works
