Inspiration I grew up seeing small money lenders in my area manage everything on paper — notebooks full of names, loan amounts, and due dates. Mistakes were common, records got lost, and clients often disputed how much they owed. I wanted to build something simple that these lenders could actually use, even without technical knowledge or a stable internet connection. What it does SamKass is a SaaS finance manager for small-scale lenders. It lets them add clients, create loans with automatic interest and EMI calculations, track daily or weekly collections, and generate PDF receipts they can share instantly on WhatsApp. It also has a built-in AI assistant to answer questions about clients, loans, and payments, plus reports and data export in JSON, CSV, and PDF. How we built it SamKass is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), so it works on Android, iOS, and desktop from one codebase — no app store needed. It uses offline-first storage so lenders can keep working without internet, with cloud sync for authentication and subscriptions. Login supports email/password, Google OAuth, and magic links, secured with JWT sessions and a 4-digit PIN lock. Challenges we ran into The biggest challenge was making the app reliable offline while still syncing data safely once the user reconnects. Getting the interest and EMI calculations accurate for both percentage-based and fixed loan types, across monthly and weekly cycles, also took a lot of testing. As a solo student founder, balancing coursework with building, testing, and supporting real users was difficult too. Accomplishments that we're proud of We're proud that SamKass isn't just a prototype — it's a live product with real paying subscribers on monthly, quarterly, and yearly plans. Getting WhatsApp receipt sharing and offline functionality working smoothly was a big milestone, since that's exactly what our target users need most. What we learned I learned how important it is to design for users who aren't tech-savvy — every screen had to be simple and obvious. I also learned a lot about handling authentication securely, building offline-first apps, and how pricing and free tiers affect user trust and conversion. What's next for Samkass Next, we want to add multi-language support for regional users, deeper analytics for lenders to understand their business, and stronger cloud backup so no one ever loses their data. We're also exploring partnerships with local financier communities to grow adoption.
