SAME SKY

Inspiration

The core inspiration comes from the shocking real-world concept of "war tourism"—the idea that people would pay for the spectacle of watching destruction from a safe distance. This profound disparity between the detached observer and the one living through the chaos became the central theme for our story, reimagined in a dystopian future.

What it does

"SAME SKY" is a dialogue-free, AI-generated animated short that explores a starkly divided future. Through a powerful visual contrast of sterile blue opulence and gritty green ruins, it tells the story of two men living worlds apart. The film serves as both a narrative and a proof-of-concept, using AI to explore timeless themes of inequality, detachment, and the search for human connection.

How we built it

Our workflow blended traditional pre-production with a cutting-edge AI pipeline. We began with a core concept and storyboard, which guided character and world design. Visual assets were generated using AI image tools, primarily on Freepik, and then brought to life using various animation platforms like Kling, Veo, and Seedance. The final assembly, editing, and crucial sound design were completed in Adobe Premiere to ground our world with cinematic emotion.

Challenges we ran into

The primary challenge was visual consistency. Maintaining the same character and environment across countless AI generations required a rigorous curation process. Beyond the technical hurdles, the artistic challenge was to steer the AI beyond beautiful imagery towards a coherent, emotional narrative, ensuring our synthetic creation possessed a tangible sense of humanity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are incredibly proud of achieving a cohesive and emotionally impactful narrative told without a single word. Creating a consistent, striking visual aesthetic—our blue vs. green worlds—proved that a strong artistic vision can successfully direct AI. Ultimately, our greatest accomplishment is creating a piece that sparks conversation and demonstrates AI's potential as a serious tool for cinematic storytelling.

What we learned

This project transformed our understanding of the creative process. We learned that directing AI is not about command, but about collaboration—guiding a powerful tool through curation and carefully crafted language. It reinforced that no matter how advanced the technology, a powerful story and a clear human vision remain the most essential components of filmmaking.

We see this short as a launchpad. Our next steps include submitting to film festivals to showcase this new form of cinema, exploring the potential to expand the "SAME SKY" universe into a larger narrative series, and sharing our creative process with the community to inspire other artists.
