Blockchain platform for secure donations to beloved animal

Inspiration

Every day, I saw heartbreaking stories of abandoned animals on Instagram. But I also saw something worse: fake shelters, AI-generated posts, and scammers preying on empathy. I wanted to create something that made it possible to help real people helping real animals — with trust, speed, and transparency.
The first verified shelter in our app is Scovia Dogs Rescue in Uganda — a woman who rescues dogs with nothing but courage and love. She said yes when I asked if I could help. That was enough.

What it does

Patitas Solidarias is a modern web platform to support and donate safely to verified animal shelters. It lets users:

• Browse a growing list of real shelters
  
• Donate transparently (soon via blockchain)
  
• See a map, a dashboard of impact, and real rescue stories
  
• Log in, manage donations, and learn how shelters are validated
  All in a fast, emotional and mobile-first experience.
  

How we built it

We built the entire app using Bolt, with Firebase Auth + Firestore as the backend. We focused on UX and trust: the UI uses warm colors, smooth transitions, and thoughtful spacing. The shelter map was built using Leaflet. Everything is 100% responsive. We used a modular design and added an easter egg at /michi as a touch of love.

Challenges we ran into

We first tried to make the app bilingual (Spanish-English), but the translation system broke everything. We had to rebuild the full app in English, fix overlapping components, and clean old code. Another challenge was writing realistic content — I didn’t want a fake project. That’s why I verified Scovia personally, and she became part of the app.

What's next for Blockchain platform for secure donations to beloved animals

We’ll integrate Sonic Labs blockchain for real-time donation tracking with smart contracts (using multisig wallets for safety).
We want to create a global network of verified shelters, visible by region, story, and need — all connected by one transparent system.
