Inspiration
Both of us have experience working in restaurants and thought we could be a useful tool for both consumers and the restaurants they order from.
What it does
Allows users to place online orders for food at a restaurant, that helps them avoid using things like UberEats and Grubhub but it also allows the restaurant to easily track orders in an online database. This means restaurants can more easily track inventory, analyze when their up and down times are, and what foods are the most/least popular and at what times.
How we built it
We used React JS for our client side development and on the backend utilized Python with the Flask library and a MongoDB database to store all our data.
Challenges we ran into
Setting up our database correctly, getting our front end client to communicate with the backend, and figuring out how we wanted to transfer data to and from the front and back end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating back end functionality and utilizing a database that communicates with our React JS
What we learned
We learned quite a bit about setting up a database and using one, and how to build a user interface using React.
What's next for Salt&Pepper
We want to take it a step further with the data analytics we can provide restaurant owners. Allow them to track orders over specific intervals to optimize meal prep and avoid waste. We also wanted to create a more organized way to separate the data for different restaurants using our service and allow more agency for the customers. Allow for things like pick up times, delivery times, and allow them to provide feedback on their meals too.
