Inspiration
Salon Slots was inspired by the everyday problem of managing salon appointments through calls, messages, and social media. I wanted to create a simple solution that makes booking easier for customers while helping stylists manage their schedules more efficiently.
What it does
Salon Slots allows customers to view available time slots and book appointments online. Bookings are updated across devices, helping prevent double bookings and keeping the stylist and customers informed. Stylists can also block unavailable slots, and customers receive email confirmations after making a booking.
How we built it
Salon Slots was built as a web application using React, JavaScript and CSS. We used EmailJS to handle booking confirmation emails and Netlify to deploy the application and make it accessible online.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was getting the booking system and email notifications to work reliably together. We also had to make sure that when a slot was booked or blocked, the updated availability was correctly reflected across different devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that Salon Slots became a working, live application rather than just a design concept. We successfully tested the system on multiple devices and confirmed that bookings, blocked slots and email notifications were working.
What we learned
We learned how to turn a real-world problem into a functional web application, connect different services together, deploy a project online, and test how the system behaves across multiple devices.
What's next for Salon Slots
The next step is to make Salon Slots more powerful for real salons by adding features such as customer accounts, appointment history, automated reminders, more advanced stylist management, and additional booking customization.
