DEVPOST Presentation
Inspiration
We were all crypto enthusiast before jumping into developing, and really believe that wallets are going evolve like phones, that right now are much more than a calling machine. Wallets will not only have the ability to move money around, but also will be our login, contain our documentation, tickets or access cards in NFT, and also allow an unimaginable amount of other activities. We want to provide a frictionless environment for every user to interact in all these scenarios.
What it does
Just like any other wallet, it grants access to your tokens in the blockchain. Like no other wallet, it aims to provide a one-stop-place for all the token-related tasks, from swapping, bridging and staking, to minting, burning, and lending NFTs.
Why Open Source
We want Salmon to be 100% transparent.
The code behind the most important decentralized networks is open-source and is one of the reasons users trust each other in transactions rather than having to use an intermediary. Why should we use a closed-source non-custodial wallet then?
This leads naturally to the next points: Quality, Security and Auditability. Creating a community of developers with different perspectives and skillsets, all working on the same code base, can exponentially increase our possibilities. We are always open to anyone that wants to check what’s under the hood and improve it. As Eric S. Raymond famously put it: "given enough eyeballs, all bugs are shallow".
In the end, it’s about freedom.
How we built it
We started as a fork from Sollet in Solana Blockchain, but after a while decided to build everything from scratch. We have an SDK with common functions for all blockchains (built on Typescript), and a framework for the wallet that generate the different versions, using reactJS for web and React-Native for apps.
Challenges we ran into
Creating a friendly design thinking in people that is not into crypto, while keeping it usable for experienced users. Lack of documentation in some fields.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’ve assembled a team that works incredibly. We have a design we are confortable with. We are doing all of this with no private funding for now.
What we learned
Having mid-to-long term roadmaps is really hard in the space that changes everyday. Most of the team is coming from other areas of technology, so we are all absorbing a lot of information.
