Inspiration Our inspiration came from the challenges faced by healthcare professionals, particularly during high-pressure situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. Witnessing the struggles of nurses to monitor multiple patients simultaneously sparked our commitment to develop a solution that enhances patient safety and reduces their workload.

What It Does Our system automates the monitoring of saline drips, preventing critical complications such as blood backflow and air embolism. By integrating technology, it ensures that nurses can focus on patient care while receiving real-time alerts about saline levels. The web dashboard provides a clear overview of saline status, allowing for efficient management.

How We Built It We built the saline monitoring system using NodeMCU for control, a load cell to measure saline levels, and a servo motor to automate saline flow. The system was designed with a user-friendly web dashboard built on Lemmebuild, providing real-time data visualization and manual controls.

Challenges We Ran Into We faced challenges in calibrating the load cell accurately and ensuring reliable communication between the hardware and the web dashboard. Additionally, we had to consider the usability of the dashboard for nursing staff with varying levels of tech proficiency.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of We successfully developed a fully functional prototype that demonstrates reliable saline monitoring and automation. Additionally, we received positive feedback from healthcare professionals during our initial presentations, highlighting the system's potential impact.

What We Learned We learned the importance of user-centered design in healthcare technology. Engaging with nurses and medical staff helped us understand their pain points and refine our solution. We also gained valuable experience in integrating hardware with web applications.

What's Next for the Saline System Moving forward, we plan to conduct real-world testing in healthcare settings to gather further feedback and optimize the system. We aim to explore additional features, such as integrating with hospital management systems and enhancing the dashboard’s analytics capabilities to improve overall patient care and workflow efficiency.
