Inspiration
When ever i want to sell a used item i always find the hardest step is to decide how much to sell it for and this results in hours of searching online for similar products this app is supposed to help with that
What it does
Take a photo of an item (or two for better accuracy) type a quick description if you want, tell it what region you're in and the app identifies the item estimates a realistic resale price in your local currency tells you whether to sell or donate it suggests where to actually list it and writes a draft listing you can copy and paste straight into a marketplace It also keeps a local history of everything you've scanned no account needed
How we built it
using django, react, and gemini 2.5 flash for the ai model
Challenges we ran into
getting the search-grounded price to work plus some minor issues with deployment
Accomplishments that we're proud of
completing the hackathon in such a short time, this is the shortest hackathon that i did and it made me kinda nervous
What we learned
How to better handle ai calls and that the response and data shape matters a lot
What's next for SaleScan
Real marketplace price grounding beyond what search snippets give us, letting users lightly edit the AI's identification if it gets something wrong, and multi-item scans for people clearing out a whole closet at once instead of one item at a time.
