Inspiration
We were walking in the mall. Ahead of us, yards and yards of clothing. And on every cloth, a price tag. But, there was a problem. When we went to the billing counter, it was not the same price! As the cashier read that price to us at that moment our hearts sunk. We knew had to solve this problem. Just then, we heard a voice from the heavens. It was the cat god. That was the sign for us to complete this vital mission. And thus, the CATculator was born.
What it does
It takes the price of each item, totals it, then calculates the catual price according to state sales tax rates. You can choose from all 50 states of the US and Washington D.C.
How we built it
Using the java graphics AWT interface, we used repl.it to collaborate, and Eclipse to run the program.
Challenges we ran into
We could not run it on Repl.it, so we had to transfer the code to Eclipse. We also had trouble with including the picture and using the layout object.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully applying different components from java swing
- Being able to import that picture
- Figuring out how to connect the state and sales tax through arrays
What we learned
How to import a picture using graphics. Also that it is pretty hard to use graphics.
What's next for Sales Tax CATculator
-More cat pictures! -More types of taxes including property tax, income tax, luxury tax, etc. with consideration for tax benefits
- Making it beginner friendly
- Applying it to specific stores (popular ones)
- Maybe expanding to business for accounting use
