Inspiration
The idea for SaladHR stemmed from a personal journey towards healthier eating habits during a hospitalization. Recognizing the lack of support for food businesses in reducing waste and adopting sustainable practices, I founded SaladHR with the mission to bridge this gap.
What it does
SaladHR offers a comprehensive solution for tracking and measuring supplies and waste in food businesses. It incentivizes sustainability by awarding green tokens to businesses that demonstrate environmentally conscious practices. Additionally, the app harnesses the power of AI to provide tailored recommendations for optimizing operations.
How we built it
SaladHR is built using user-friendly technologies like TypeScript for the frontend and the Vertex API for server-side operations. We also leverage XRP sidechain for secure transactions. For businesses seeking hardware integration, SaladHR supports devices like Seeeduino ESP32C equipped with load cells for scales and Seeeduino ESPC3 with Grove vision AI module cameras, enhanced with tinyML models for efficient produce labeling and counting.
Challenges we faced
Implementing Vertex into AWS Lambda functions posed technical challenges, and integrating MQTT brokers for video and tinyML prediction data retrieval proved to be complex.
Accomplishments we're proud of
We take pride in developing an app with the potential to significantly reduce food waste and promote sustainability in the food industry.
What we learned
Our journey with SaladHR has deepened our understanding of food waste issues and the capabilities of Google Vertex.
What's next for SaladHR
Open-sourcing the tools to foster collaboration and innovation within the community. Offering educational resources to empower businesses with AI-driven insights. We're committed to advancing SaladHR and driving positive change in the restaurant industry.
