Inspiration

Many women in India are unaware of the government schemes, safety helplines, and support systems available to them. Even when these resources exist, the information is often scattered across different websites, written in complex language, or difficult to access during urgent situations.

We wanted to create a platform that simplifies access to support and opportunities for women. The inspiration behind Sakhi Support was to build a digital companion where women can quickly find schemes, check eligibility, access helplines, and connect with a supportive community.

Our goal was to make information accessible, supportive, and empowering for every woman.

What it does

Scheme Explorer – Browse government schemes related to health, education, financial support, and employment. Eligibility Checker – Answer simple questions to find schemes you qualify for. Emergency Helplines – Quick access to important safety and support helplines. Community Space – Users can share experiences, post questions, and support each other. Admin Dashboard – Admins can add schemes, eligibility questions, and manage information easily.

How we built it

Sakhi Support was built using a full-stack web development approach.

Frontend React.js Vite CSS for responsive UI

Backend Node.js Express.js

Database MongoDB for storing schemes, eligibility questions, jobs and community posts

Challenges we ran into

faced challenges integrating the React frontend with the Node.js/Express backend and designing a flexible MongoDB database for schemes and eligibility questions. Another challenge was maintaining a simple and user-friendly UI while thinking about real user needs, along with handling environment variables and deployment securely.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully developed the core structure of Sakhi Support, including scheme discovery, eligibility checking, and a basic community feature. The platform demonstrates how women can easily access important information and support resources in one place. While the project is still evolving and more features can be added, we are proud of building a working prototype with a clean and user-friendly interface.

What we learned

We gained experience in full-stack development using React, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB, along with learning , database design, and building user-focused solutions.

What's next for Sakhi Support – Empowering Women with Support

In the future, we plan to expand Sakhi Support into a mobile application to make the platform more accessible and convenient for women. We aim to integrate an AI-powered chatbot that can guide users about government schemes, answer common questions, and help them find the right support quickly.

To strengthen safety features, the app will include tools such as an SOS emergency button, real-time location sharing with trusted contacts, and instant access to important helplines.

Our vision is to bring information, safety tools, and community support into one unified platform, making Sakhi Support a reliable digital companion that empowers women with knowledge, protection, and opportunities.
