Inspiration
Living in a city that is over a fault line makes one's mind continuously think about dreadful terrors of an earthquake. With that in mind, and having access to XR Headsets inspired us to show our actual living spaces to AI and get useful information from it to make it help us make our homes safer.
What it does
This companion lets us scan our homes and upload them to an AI and get information about safe zones and dangers during an earthquake. Then with the information it get from the AI it show us in our 3D space what needs to be done to be safer in case of an earthquake, where is exactly safe to crouch, which furniture exactly needs to be secured to walls etc. Also keeps those information for later times and let the user check whenever they would have been able to took the precautions mentioned by the companion.
How we built it
We created the bot in blender and make mechanics and effects work in Unity. Send the view of the room through headset to ChatGPT using its APIs, make the AI analyse images and determine the risks and safe zones. Then feed that information back to Unity to show the zones on our 3D space.
Challenges we ran into
The communication between Unity and ChatGPT has been challenging. Giving more than one prompt to the ChatGPT was not as easy as it should be, and the responses Unity get were not as consistent as it is in the direct personal use of ChatGPT.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we accomplished this complex job on time, and the potential this utility has for peoples safety. We all also enjoy how fun it is to work with the cute bot.
What we learned
We’ve become much more experienced in the ways to use the various ChatGPT APIs, and making them communicate back and forth with Unity.
What's next for sAIfer
We hope to ascend this project to a market ready version, and even make it more comprehensive as it having a wider range of disasters and risks to analyse and suggesting safety measures.
