SahyogBharat was built with one mission in mind — to bridge the gap between rural citizens and access to government schemes. Many of us on the team come from small-town backgrounds, and we've seen how a lack of awareness, complex processes, and language barriers often prevent deserving families from benefiting from welfare initiatives.

The project began with rapid prototyping using Bolt, where we focused on designing a UI inspired by the simplicity of everyday apps like YouTube and WhatsApp. Our aim was to keep the interface intuitive and accessible even to first-time users with minimal digital literacy.

We developed the app using React Native with Expo, ensuring lightweight performance on low-end Android devices. Voice search functionality was enabled using the Google Speech API, and Azure Text-to-Speech brought each scheme to life through audio narrations in local languages. For multilingual accessibility in the community section, we integrated Bhashini. We also implemented offline caching so users in low-connectivity areas could still explore key information.

Throughout the build, we faced typical early-stage challenges — from npm package conflicts and Expo config issues to syncing problems in GitHub — but each hurdle taught us more about shipping resilient solutions under constraints.

SahyogBharat isn’t just a project. It’s our collective effort to ensure that the power of technology and AI reaches every corner of Bharat — especially those who've been left behind.
